Audition Information
Pre-audition
Please pre-audition your students at school prior to our county auditions for pitch matching, range, etc. Also, consider maturity (especially for 6th graders), responsibility, behavior, absences, grades, and other commitments. It is a good idea to check in with parents and make sure they understand that they are responsible for transportation to and from the audition, all rehearsals, and the concert. Remember, the more TBs we have, the more SAs we can have! It is also a top priority to have every school equitably and authentically represented in the chorus.
Here is a rough plan/timeline for how to get ready for these auditions:
Week of 8/14-Talk your classes about all county, let former students share awesome experiences. Send interest letter home.
Week of 8/21- Distribute audition materials, practice in class.
Week of 8/28-Firm commitments from students that want to pre-audition. Announce pre-auditions material (scale, sight read, your choice). Continue to practice auditions with students.
Week of 9/5-hold pre-auditions at your school, announce results. Send formal invite letter home, confirm commitment to attend all rehearsals and concert. Practice with students on auditions.
9/18-Auditions beginning at 5pm
9/25 or earlier-Auditions results posted
10/19, 10/23, 10/26, 10/30, 11/2-All county rehearsals at Oak Grove MS, 6-8pm

Audition information-Canvas
The Middle School All County Chorus 2023-2024 Audition Materials have been created and released as a Module on Canvas. Please follow these steps to access the materials so that you can prepare your students for the audition on September 20th at Largo High School.
The Audition Module contains the following 4 pages:
- Who can audition: Any chorus student 7th-8th (director must be member of PCMEA)
- 6th grade students: only very motivated students that can handle long rehearsals and practicing at home. This should be a special circumstance only.
- How many can audition: 1:1:1 ratio preferred (sopranos: altos: tenors/basses). If you have a smaller number of tenors/basses, please do not bring more than 3 sopranos, 5 altos.
- Where are auditions: Oak Grove School
- When are auditions: Monay, September 18th beginning at 5pm. All chorus teachers are expected to help with auditions (even if you choose not to bring students). Teachers will receive component pointsJ. Your students will audition, and you will help in an audition room.
- What is the audition material: sing the All State Vocalise (ascending and descending), and sing measures 47-62 of Fesitval Sanctuss by John Leavitt (tracks and sheet music are available via Canvas.)
- Audition process: Teachers arrive before 5pm to get set for audition rooms. Auditions will begin at 5pm. Each school will be assigned an arrival time. Once your students arrive, they will be held in a meeting room until they are called to audition. Singers then audition individually in various rooms. Each room will have a music stand and a way to play the audition track (we may ask you to bring a Bluetooth speaker for this) and two directors/judges who score the audition based on a rubric. Once a singer has finished auditioning, they may leave.
